Finding Clarity
Finding the Path
There was never a guarantee that we were going to make it clean through this life. Along the trail, there are sharp sticks and unforgiving stones. Protruding brush sometimes obscures the view. We must keep our feet beneath us and our eyes ahead, lest we slip and fall and bruise and break. Yet, even despite all our intentional awareness, despite our planning and preparing, we may find ourselves inevitably trudging through the stinking mud. This, my friend, is the path.
Nobody said it was going to be easy. In fact, those who consciously decided to pursue this voyage of a life with True Purpose are surely to have it harder at times. Our resilience is tested so that our strength may be revealed. Our trust is tried so that we might find more faith. Over and over again, on this trail that is life, we slip and fall and bruise and break. So that we may get right back up. So that we can wipe the dirt off our face and truly see.
The night is always darkest before a new dawn (the coldest too I might add). This darkness, this trudging through the mud, this cold fear that may ensue, is a part of the messiness that is an authentic human life. These challenging moments provide something that makes the path to our True Purpose so utterly and irrevocably clear. Contrast.
The most glorious sunrises are when the sun bursts through the clouds. The best hikes are the ones you have to work for, clambering through the mountain laurel and slippery rocks to behold the most serendipitous waterfall. The best parts of life are always preceded by the worst, and vice-versa. In a series of peaks and troughs, emotional highs and lows, it is all the same path. Whether you want to sugarcoat it, place preference on certain parts, or avoid the lows entirely, it is all the path. It is all your life and you can choose to consciously walk on it. You can choose to be present with each Now moment in your life. Hey, there was never a guarantee that this would be easy, but feel comforted in knowing that you never have to go through it alone.
The Clarity Strategy Equation
Presence + Peace = Neutral Awareness
Mindful Focus + Bodily Balance = Coherent Nervous System
Neutral Awareness + Coherent Nervous System = Ability to Perceive a Higher Will
Intentional Faith + Surrendering Trust = Ability to Follow a Higher Will
Perception of a Higher Will + Following a Higher Will = Clarity
Clarity = A neutral, open perspective in which one is able to align thoughts and feelings with the Higher Will of Consciousness.
Consciousness is Omnipotent
God is everywhere, all the time. A Universal Intelligence, enlivening every aspect of the material world, animating the physical with properties and distinguishing characteristics. In living beings especially, organisms, this Consciousness may be called our Innate Intelligence; a glass from the ocean of life.
No matter what word(s) you use to describe that which is beyond matter, this Consciousness is inherent to us. It is inherent to all life itself, so it does not really matter what you call It. Not so much as your ability to trust this unifying force of Nature that gives all life meaning.
If we can be present, embracing the Now moment for all that it is (sharp sticks included), then we can see through the eye of a God within. We can open our heart-center to find an everlasting Peace. We can begin to trust in a Higher Will that is leading us through life. It never abandons us because Consciousness is omnipotent. To remember this is to reawaken to our True Self, realizing that we never have to walk the path alone.
Always, in all ways, there is a Presence that is observing us, that is supporting us, and most importantly, that loves us. This Presence surrounds us and is within us simultaneously. All we have to do is connect, especially in begrudging moments of trial and tribulation. This, my friend, is The Clarity Strategy.
The Clarity Strategy Breakdown
It’s pretty simple. If we can have full Presence with our mind, then our focus is in the Now moment (which is eternal). If we can simultaneously be at Peace within our body, then we have a balance in which we are able to catch ourselves in reactions and falling into suboptimal behaviors and emotional patterns. Doing these things to create harmony between the mind and body are certainly going to take practice.
There will be times when our focus will be tested, where we will be pushed off our balance. It may be really easy to follow The Clarity Strategy when life is smooth sailing, but to do so only when things are easy misses the point entirely. The point of this strategy is to find our way back into the Light amidst the darkness. It is to find our faith and fortify our trust in the Higher Will of God… even when life is messy.
Always this Higher Will wants us to get back into a state of coherence; to see that we are never really broken but rather innately whole. Having mind-body rituals in place to settle and balance out the nervous system certainly helps us to get back into this Clarity.
The Conscious Breath
Conscious breath is an essential gateway into Consciousness. Breathing unifies the mind and body. It opens the heart-center. It allows us to Be.
Suffice it to say, being present with our breath means that we are being present with our life. Our experiences are a reflection of our inner world. The awareness of our inner world is largely dependent on our ability to breathe through our heart-center and access that inner world.
The more we connect the mind-body with the breath, the more intimately cohesive we become within. We begin to recognize stagnant energy, emotional dormancies, and regions of dissociation. By becoming more energetically aware, we can become more emotionally cognizant human beings. We can recognize that all humans move through suffering and thus develop a deep empathy for others as we move through our own past hurts and latent wounds.
This healing begins to reflect in the experiences we have with people and circumstances in our outer world. When our thoughts (mind) and emotions (body) line up, we can magically manifest a reality that honors our True Self. Instead of replaying a recurrent victimhood loop, we can become more aware of our subconscious mind-body and flip the script. We can choose to be present with the Now moment.
For these reasons, breath is an invaluable tool. Breathing consciously tells the Universe, “I choose to be here and Now.” It can be used to settle the nervous system into alpha and theta brainwave states (alpha is utilized in mindful presence while theta is the bridge to our subconscious and puts us in a state of receptivity). It can be used as a means to develop mental focus and discipline. It is a fabulous way to integrate emotions and remember that we need not identify with the weather patterns of the heart, that beneath the emotions there rests an inherent Truth.
Mind-Body Ritual #1: Conscious Breath
Position: Seated upright in chair or cross-legged on floor cushion.
You also could do this while meditative walking.
Breathing: 5-6 second INHALE through the nose
1-2 second brief pause
5-6 second EXHALE through the nose
1-2 second brief pause
Intention: Develop a natural breath cycle. Generate awareness of the
breath to settle into the Now moment. Consciousness.
Practice:
Find a relaxed position where your spine can obtain a neutral, upright posture
First, take a breath in through the nose and feel your lungs expand (5-6 seconds)
Briefly pause at the top of the inhalation (1-2 seconds)
Naturally release the breath in a controlled, steady fashion (5-6 seconds)
Briefly pause at bottom of exhalation (1-2 seconds)
Repeat from the beginning inhalation and follow through with the breath cycle
Allow your breathing to become full and natural
Develop a natural rhythm that feels good to you (heart rate is slow and relaxed and it does not feel too straining)
Practice breathing in this organic way throughout the day (i.e. driving your car, reading at work, walking, listening to others speak, etc.)
Creating Coherence
We are whole. When we consciously choose to be here and Now, we are picking up the other end of the line. A conversation with Consciousness ensues, reminding us that we are never alone. With this active conversation comes a remembering that we are inherently whole and, as such, co-create an inner and outer environment in which more Grace flows into our lives.
We are powerful co-Creators within our own life. If we can perceive a Higher Will constantly pulling us towards the next healing, the next big growth, the next part of our path to ensure that we are moving through the dark and into the Light, then we are recognizing The Clarity Strategy. If we can actually trust this bigness of life that is pulling and directing us to where we need to go, in alignment with our True Purpose, then we are fully embracing The Clarity Strategy.
A side effect of this style of living is having a coherent nervous system because once you recognize that this is a prerequisite, you will always be willing to do the things to create more harmony within the mind-body. It’s not just one thing, it’s all of them. Creating coherence in our life is getting chiropractic and other nervous system specific care. It’s creating quiet time for breathing, meditation, and/or prayer. It’s living a life that is in integrity with our words and that which we value. Thus, it’s drawing the necessary boundaries so that we may love ourselves, spend time with our families, and embrace a fullness of life and living. It’s eating clean and breaking through self-sabotaging patterns that keep our bodies inflamed and on edge. It’s moving our body intentionally, doing the stretches, exercises and activities that bring us more energy. Ultimately, Clarity is about embracing our Self, our family, our inner circle, and our community with Unconditional Love.
From Clarity within, we create coherence without. This intentional love ripples out into the lives of others. Those we love are blessed because how we see ourselves projects out into how we see others. As we elevate ourselves, we elevate others. The more whole and loving and peaceful we feel on the inside, the more of this Grace will inevitably surface into our life experience on the outside.
Yet this does not guarantee things will alway be easy. Grounding Grace is about finding this Clarity and Unconditional Love through the challenges. Even when we stub our toe or scratch our face on a protruding branch. Even when we are trudging through the ever-present mud in this messy thing called life. Even when we feel alone in the dark, we can respond by lighting our inner spark of Innate Intelligence. We can decide to pick up the other end of the line in an active conversation with Consciousness. All we have to do is remember that God is right there with us, within us, and all around us. We are never really alone. This, my friend, is The Clarity Strategy.
